Town Information

Mallaig is a beautiful place on the West Coast of Scotland about 150 miles (240Km) north of Glasgow. On a good day there are spectacular views across to Skye and the Cullin Hills. Getting to Mallaig also means driving or taking the train through idyllic scenery so leave some time to savour the view. The train line from Fort William is also home to The Jacobite Steam Railway, the same company that provided the train and carriages for the Harry Potter movie.

Once in Mallaig, see the working fishing port and enjoy the fresh shellfish that is brought in daily and served up in local restaurants. A boat trip to the Knoydart Peninsula will take you to the last wilderness in Great Britain with a chance to see Minke whales and, if you are really lucky, Humpback whales too. Take time to visit the Heritage Centre and the aquarium at the Mallaig Marine World.

Most of the shops are on Station Road and Main St but we have also listed those on Harbour Rd and Davies Brae for you. There is no street called High St in Mallaig.

Information about many of the places and sights en-route to Glenfinnan and Lochailort is available on the Road to the Isles web site.
