Pitlochry - a 'Must See' Place to Stop
Pitlochry is on the A9 North of Perth
and is the geographical centre of Scotland. This alone makes it a good base from which to visit other areas but it is a very picturesque place in its own right and deserving of its many visitors. Within just a few miles of here are some great walks, wonderful loch views and wild glens to explore. The shops are excellent and epitomise the best of Scotland. Pitlochry is also famous for its fish ladder that was constructed to allow over 5,000 Salmon between April and October to reach their up-stream spawning grounds. The ladder is about 300m (1,000ft) long and rises over 15m (50ft) in a series of 34 pools. In our view, Pitlochry is a 'must see' place to visit. The main road through the centre is Atholl Road and this is where all the shops are, so that is what we have listed here.
Blair Castle is a Five Star visitor attraction and has views to match. With its history rooted in the 13th Century the castle has over 740 years of history. Blair Castle is the ancient seat of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl and became one of the first Scottish castles to open to the public and welcomes all generations of visitors. A few miles to the South is Scone Palace where Macbeth, Robert the Bruce and Charles II were crowned. A lot of events are held in the grounds throughout the year, including falconry displays and the opportunity to meet characters from history. Check out the Scone Palace website for details. Pitlochry Festival Theatre is very active in all art forms, check their site to find out what's on.
