Town Information
Peebles sits at the head of the Tweed Valley just 23 miles from Edinburgh and 40 miles from Glasgow. Not surprisingly, it is a popular destination for a day trip from these cities. A bustling High Street with a lovely Scottish feel to it. Some of the best mountain biking in the world can be had along the trails laid out in Glentress forest and Innerleithen forest. A must do for anyone keen on biking, and, if not, the The Hub cafe at the foot of the trails offers a lovely cup of real coffee and home made cakes.
Just a few miles away to the South of Innerleithen is Traquair House, the oldest continuously inhabited building in Scotland. In 2007, it celebrates its 900th year and there are many events available throughout the summer. Originally a hunting lodge for royalty, it now has plenty for the visitor, including the house, grounds, maze, workshops, restaurant and its own Traquair Brewery. Further North, on the A703 road to Penicuik and Edinburgh, is Rosslyn Chapel. Made famous by Dan Brown's book, The Da Vinci Code, it is a few miles South of Edinburgh centre in Roslin village.
